Hydorgen Filling Station Configurations

Hydrogen filling stations have not been standardized in the same way as current gasoline filling stations in terms of sourcing of the fuel, on-site storage, and handling and control systems. The variation begins at the supply end of the station where diversity is currently imposed by a lack of a hydrogen supply infrastructure.

It is convenient to categorize the hydrogen sourcing options as shown in Figure on the right as comprising the two general categories of delivery and on-site generation that are further divided into more detailed options. Hydrogen on-site generation will include both steam reformer and electrolysis options. As we proceed further into the station, there is a high degree of commonality among the scenarios except for the differences arising from whether liquid or compressed gaseous hydrogen is being supplied to the target vehicles.
